P Chidambaram, the union finance minister has appreciated the progress of the southern states lauding them that they are doing much better than the northern states of India in terms of reaching financial inclusion. Talking to the media after he had spoke to a gathering of Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers of the five southern states to discuss the flow of bank credit, he said, "Broadly, the conclusion of the meeting is that the southern States are doing very well in terms of credit delivery and in terms of the expansion of the banking network."

There were also the Chief Executive officers of several banks and the financial institutions who participated in the meeting along with the Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers of  Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
