Hurricane Sandy: US's biggest storm

The Hurricane Sandy which is expected to hit the shores of the east coast of US is speculated to be the biggest storm that the mainland of country has endured ever. Several areas could be struck by strong winds and flooding beyond the safe levels. Most affected in the catastrophe would be the coast from New England to the mid-Atlantic states.

Densely populated regions of the country like Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Boston etc could be among the most affected regions.

Since yesterday evening the subways, buses and trains were halted bringing the markets in the major city of New York to a stand still. An evacuation order was forced upon over 375,000 people in the city.

Wall Street exchanges however would run as normal with the alternative facilities that would keep the trade running.

The Obama government estimates that there would be a disruption in lives of over 50 million people and the effect was evident with the transportation systems being shut down already.

There were more than 700 flights, international flights included, which were canceled on Sunday and more than 2500 flights wouldn't run on Monday.

Analysts said that this storm was a hybrid storm which was caused by the Arctic Jet Stream merging itself with the Tropical storm which led to over 30cm of rain in the coastal areas and the precipitation manifested as snowfall in the inner lands.
