A state publication in China has drawn the attention and criticism from gay right activists after it had mentioned Homosexuality to be a sexual deviance that needed treatment. The families of the kids who chose to be homosexual were enraged with the title of the book being 'Parents , please walk your children through puberty'.

These books were published by the agencies under the control of the government; Hangzhou Institute for Educational Research and Northeast Normal University Press. This book which was aimed at providing guidance to the adolescent children has mentioned to prevent them from being homosexual. It mentions in the book that homosexuals can turn violent, anti-social and egregious since they are shunned by the society.

18 mothers of homosexual children had witten a letter to the government education bureau in Hangzhou, seeking the recalling of the book from the market immediately. This book had sold over 50,000 copies in one year.

A gay rights group member said that teaching material that contains misinformation about homosexuals. The chief editor of the book, Ha Siping, has apologized for her mistake and mentioned that she should have been more careful, being the Chief Editor, removing the controversial content to be removed. She said "During the editing process, we did not research homosexuality enough. As the chief editor, it was my failure to maintain a strict standard in editing," she said.
