With a view to put a check to the server problems while booking online tickets, the IRCTC, has come out with an interesting scheme. Named Rolling Deposit Scheme (RDS), this scheme would enable a person to transfer some amount (around Rs.1500) to IRCTC account in advance. And this scheme can be used as a payment gateway to book the tickets. As and when the money gets deducted from the account, one can renew the account. The IRCTC officials have told the media that this scheme was specifically designed to overcome ticketing blues. They were of the opinion that many people were unable to book tatkal tickets timely due to the issues from payment gateways and their online banking server problems.
In fact, they said about 10 per cent of the failed reservations were taking place due to server problems. After going through all the possible measures to overcome this problem, the officials have said they thought of introducing Rolling Deposit Scheme. We have decided to launch (RDS), a hassle-free e-ticket booking scheme in which the user will be able to book e-tickets against advance money kept with us, “ said an IRCTC official. It has to be mentioned here that at least four to five lakh tickets would be booked through IRCTC website. One can book i-ticket and e-ticket from this website. While e-ticket enables passenger to take the printout of the ticket and carry the same with original identity proof during the journey, e-ticket is something like the original ticket issued at the railway counter. There will be no print out facility for e-tickets. Once a passenger books e-ticket, he will receive the original ticket through post or courier..
