The pilots of the almost bankrupt Kingfisher Airlines based in Mumbai have announced that they would go on a strike indefinitely starting Wednesday protesting over the non-payment of salaries. "Mumbai-based pilots have decided to go on a strike from tomorrow (Wednesday) onwards due to management's failure to keep its commitment on March salary payment," a source in the airline said.
The latest strike that was proposed by a group of pilots would be a big blow on the schedule of the fight the source in the airline said.
Kingfisher was in a financial crisis, so severe that it had to stop paying salaries to most of the employees, pilots and engineers included, since five to six months.
This strike is the second such protest staged by the pilots in just a short span of 10 days deciding not to go to work on the ground of unpaid salaries.
These airlines, run by Vijay Mallya, had reduced the number of flights run per day, most of them plying to Mumbai and Delhi, to 25% of the full capacity after the financial crunch had hit the company.
