Infant dies after drowning in a bucket

In a rare, shocking and a tragic incident an infant had accidentally fallen into a bucket filled with water, and suffocated to death. The two-and-a-half year old was trying to reach a brush that he dropped in the bucket and had put in his head first. With an unstable gait, the kid had lost his balance and fell into the bucket. The father who was sound asleep could was unaware as the incident was happening not far away from him at his residence at Vivekananda Park, Takurpukur.

The incident took place on Tuesday after the mother, Tapati, of the boy, Jeet Maika, had gone for a morning walk as she does every day. She left the kid beside the father, Sanjoy, who was sleeping.  Jeet had slipped from the bed and walked into the bathroom at around 6 am. He started playing with a brush and dropped it into a bucket that was almost as high as himself. In an attempt to retrieve the brush, he leaned towards the bucket reaching for the brush at the bottom. The attempt had gone awry and killed the kid as he suffocated for breath after his head was submerged in the bucket.

The unsuspecting mother was shocked to see that the child wasn't beside her husband and started searching for the missing kid in her kitchen and the whole room. She even asked her neighbors is they spotted her boy. Only then did it strike Tapati's mind that the boy could have been in the bathroom. Immediately she rushed to the bathroom to see the baby feet up in the bucket. He was immediately taken to a nursing home nearby but the parents were too late.

"I would not have lost my child, had I stayed home today," cried an unconsolable Tapati, who initially felt reluctant to go for the walk on a rainy day. Sanjoy was oblivious of any sounds from the bathroom.

The incident is extremely tragic as the mother had had a miscarriage earlier. Her son Jeet was taken to the Katapukur morgue and was to be taken later to Hindu Burial ground in the evening.
