Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that he would not campaign for votes for the forthcoming assembly elections in the villages that are not electrified as promised by 2015.
He said, "I will not ask people to vote for us in the next state assembly polls if we fail to provide electricity to each village in Bihar by 2015," talking to the people on the occasion of Independence Day.
Nitish Kumar emphasized that electrification of all the villages was the primary goal of his government led by the Janata Dal United. Nitish Kumar added, "We have been working seriously on the electricity front to provide it to all in next few years.”
He mentioned that the state government had asked for a fair share in the new yet to come thermal power plant which belongs to the National Power Corporation in Barh, Patna. The government had also cleared two other power projects to private sector.
Kumar had become the hope of several thousands by promising electricity to all of those who are still power-starved and leading their lives in the lights from lanterns and candles.
In a state that needs over 2500 MW to 3000 MW of power only 100 MW of power is being produced while the central government supplies over 1100-1200 MW. The state still faces a deficit well above 1200 MW.
