Gujrat High Court has directed the state government to make appropriate laws that would make it mandatory for all the four-wheelers registered in Gujrat to be converted to natural gas in on year, making an impact on the lakhs of people owning a car.

Further, it has given a window period of 2 months to the government to impose strict laws with regard to pollution in an effort to fix the levels of emissions to a humanly possible low as enforced by international norms. The orders have to be implemented both on private as well as public ehicles that run on petrol or diesel.

After beig directed by the Dhrangadhra Prakruthi Mandal, the Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala had passed the order.

The judges proposed that the public vehicles should be sold the natural gas at prices lower than the private vehicles. They should also ensure that the public vehicle fares are regulated such that the profits go to the citizens in the end. The High Court issued directions to the Central Government that the rates of the Natural Gas supplied to Gujrat must comply with the rates in Delhi and Mumbai to enforce equality.
