Cops recover bomb carelessly

Samana town is not new to terrorist attacks as it had faced a few acts of terrorism in the militancy days in Punjab. The residents of the town were on bated breath after a similar incident had happened on Friday morning after a bomb was recovered. This anxiety prevailed for three hours until when the bomb was confirmed to be a fake.

The police, without summoning the bomb disposal squad, had performed the operation on their own as they recklessly broke open the bomb. Luckily, the insides revealed that it was not a real bomb but only contained sand in it. However, this clearly points out at the cops lack of responsibility. No senior official had taken the responsibility to visit the spot. Relying on the information on a phone call by a head constable and home guard constable, they had broke open the bomb after they took it away in a car.

A few rag pickers observed the object first in Gandhi ground, the heart of the city. The police were duly informed but only he 'munshi' on duty at the samana city police station, Avtar Singh, along with home guard constable Chamkaur Singh came pretty unprepared to the spot for bomb retrieval and also they had no equipment to defuse the bomb.
Reacting after 2 hours of receiving the information, they cops came at 7:30am and took it back in a car by hanging it on one corner of a long bamboo post. After driving for a small distance, the cops broke open the bomb only to find sand, electrical wires and transmitters that were fitted in the object.

However, this 'achievement' was commended by the senior officials of the police station, DSP Sewa Singh Malji, who said that the cops were bravehearted to take away the object.
