Minimal punishment for drunken bus driver carrying 42 children

A man was arrested and put in jail for merely 5 days after he was was identified driving a bus in a drunken state carrying 42 children.

The Delhi police have planned to appeal for a harsher punishment for the driver who put the life of 42 children to risk by driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Joint Commissioner of Traffic police, Satyendra Garg said that the driver was arrested at a check post near Massodpur three days ago.

The school children were going to a trip to Gurgaon in a bus hired by an NGO. On 16th Night while the bus was returning, he was found to be driving after consuming liquor. He was way over the permissible limit of 30mg/100ml with the breathalyser reading at 125.8mg/100ml.

He also said that the driver had neglected the grave responsibilty of driving 42 children safely. He could have jeopardised their lives or even have gotten them killed. "We will be appealing for a much stringent punishment. Safety of these children should be the prime concern always. How dare he play with lives of so many children?" he added.
