The residences of AIADMK leader Dhinakaran and his close aide, Mallikarjuna were searched by the Delhi Crime Branch police personnel led by Assistant Commissioner Sanjay Sherawat.

After four days of questioning, Dinakaran was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an alleged bribery case to the Election Commission (EC) officials, to get the undivided AIADMK’s “Two Leaves” election symbol for his faction. According to the Police sources, they had secured warrants from a Delhi court, to conduct the searches, which were parts of efforts to gather “further evidence” in the alleged attempt by the AIADMK leader to bribe the EC officials. However, they did not mention whether any confiscations were made.

Apart from the AIADMK leader and Mallikarjuna, the others connected with them, were also questioned over illegal channels and conduits used for sending money from Chennai to Delhi,     says sources. The Delhi police team, who is investigating the case brought the both accused by flight from the national capital and they arrived a little after 1 P.M yesterday. The supporters of Dinakaran, Pugazhenthi and Nanchil Sambath were present at the airport when Dinakaran arrived.

Earlier, the Delhi police had alleged middlemen Sukesh Chandrasekar, of striking a Rs 50 crore deal to help the AIADMK faction, get the party symbol. Sukesh was the first to be arrested in the EC bribery case. About Rs 1.30 crore was seized from Chandrasekar, when he was arrested from a five-star hotel, Hyatt, in Delhi on April 16.

Dinakaran has been accused of allegedly arranging the amount from undisclosed sources and getting it transferred from Chennai to Delhi through illegal channels. Mallikarjuna was arrested for allegedly helping Dhinakaran transfer this money from Chennai to Delhi, the police said.

Police are also verifying whether Chandrasekar had approached any EC official for getting a favorable verdict for Dinakaran’s faction. Dinakaran, currently is facing a revolt by influential section of state ministers who have decided to keep V.K. Sasikala and him out of the party affairs.
