CAG Auditors to verify the necessity of trains between Seldah and Howrah

The Controller and Auditor General of India is set to travel on a few selected trains which originate and terminate at Howrah and Seldah stations and would confirm if their introduction was completely necessary.

All these trains were introduced By Mamatha Banarjee who was then Railway Minister during her tenure between 2009 and May 2011.

The new decision was a part of review system for 'Introduction of New Trains'. The review will confirm the need and demand of the trains. The auditors on the trains would also take pictures of the coaches for further assessment. The railways have already been intimated about the review and were asked to make the necessary arrangements to ensure smooth work.

10 pairs of trains under Eastern Railway would be inspected by the auditors as a turnkey. These are the 13051/52 Howrah-Siuri Hool Express, 13421/22 Nabadwip Dham - New Farakka Express, 13053/54 Howrah - Siuri Express, 13117/18 Kolkata - Behrampore Court Express, 13027/28 Kavi Guru Express between Kolkata and Azimgunj, 12273/74 Howrah - New Delhi Duronto Express, 11105/06 Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express between Kolkata and Jhansi, 12357/58 Kolkata - Amritsar Superfast Express, 12249/50 Kolkata - New Delhi Yuva Express and the 13147/48 Uttar Banga Express between Sealdah and New Cooch Behar.

All the trains were introduced by Mamata Banerjee but for Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express.

The review was made after several complaints were made stating that the new trains were introduced but the required infrastructure was lacking which experts believe to be the major cause of accidents. Maintenance of tracks and rolling stocks is also not being maintained properly.
