UP number 1 in the domestic tourist visits segment

Data from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India reveals that the total number of touristic visits that have been registered all over the country in the states and union territories of the country have added up to 851 million during the year 2011. This is 13.8% higher than the registered domestic visits last year.

In 2010 there were 748 million DTVs and only 669 in 2009. Thisproves that the economic slowdown had no impact on the tourism in the country. This year the highest DTVs were registered fom Uttar Pradesh, the position which was held by Andhra Pradesh  in 2010. This year AP slided down to the second place.
The top ten states with the most number of DTV visits in the descending order are as follows: Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradsh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and Gujrat. These 10 states alone comprise the 53.3% of the total domestic tourism. 18.3% of the total tourism was recorded in Uttar Pradesh while Andhra Pradesh occupied 18 percent in the pie chart. Tamil Nadu had 16.2 percent followed by Karnataka with 9.9 per cent and Maharashtra with 6.5 per cent.
Goa which was earlier in the top ten foreign tourism destinations has failed to achieve a place this year. Karnataka miraculously achieved a position in the foreign tourism segment with over 0.57 million tourist visits. The Foreign tourist visits also witnessed an increase in 2011 compared to the previous year; 19.5 million against 17.9 million which is an 8.84% increase in the tourism compared to 2009.
