Black Indica with 90,000 detonators intercepted near Kolaghat

CID and the members of the bomb disposal squad had a busy Wednesday defusing the 90,000 detonators that were seized from a car travelling on NH-6 in Kolaghat. Sukhesh Jain, Chief Superintendent of Police, East Midnapore, speculated after investigations that these detonators were to be supplied to Maoists in Jangalmahal or Jharkhand.

The detonators were defused by bundling them with explosives and blasting them. Local residents in the contiguous regions of Kolaghat police station protested against the defusal in the residential area but the police turned a deaf ear towards their worried pleas to perform defusal in safer locations.

Kolaghat police confiscated the detonators on 27th of June from a Black Indica on the Sarat Setu, NH-6. The Indica bore Jharkhand registration plates and was carrying five sacks filled with detonators. Driver Subho Singh and Guddu Singh were arrested and transferred to the custody of Police for 14 days.

Jain said “Leads from the investigations are being pursued after the criminals revealed information regarding the receipients”. However Jain refused to reveal any further details though its was clear to the interrogators that the consignees were Maoists
