The Congress Core Committee will meet in Delhi this evening. AICC president Sonia Gandhi, the home minister P Chidambaram, the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and defense minister A K Antony are going to take part in the meeting. They will reportedly discuss the presidential candidate.
It is known that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also an ally of UPA, met Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday. She later addressed the media that Sonia spelled out the name of Pranab Mukherjee. After sometime, Mamata Banerjee has met another ally of UPA, Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The duo stirred up controversy by stating that they would be accepting Dr. Manmohan Singh as the presidential candidate. This would be nothing but expressing indirectly that they don't like Manmohan Singh as the prime minister, said experts.
On the otherhand, the choices of Mamata Banerjee and Mulayam are Somnath Chatterjee and Abdul Kalam. It is known that many people in the country want to see Abdul Kalam as the next President of India.
Therefore, the Congress Core Committee meet today will finalize as to who the presidential candidate would be.
