The raging Mullaperiyar issue which has soured relations between neighbouring states Kerala and Tamil Nadu has now gone international after a group of NRIs decided to protest at the Liverpool City Center, United Kingdom, on Feb 25. The group of protestors has also urged international community to intervene in the matter and compelling action to build a new dam, as reported by in the media.

"The central government has so far failed to take any initiative, and the state government seems to have stopped pressing the matter before the Center," said Tome Jose, the man behind the protest. "When we approached Coyne, he readily agreed to participate in the agitation and promised to take necessary steps to create awareness on the issue," said John Coyne, North West Green Party councilor, resident of Liverpool.  "We chose the church as our location of the sathyagraha as it is considered a symbol of resistance. During the Second World War, the Germans bombed the church and after the war the council preserved it," Tome added. While Kerala wants to build a new dam at the site, Tamil Nadu has said that Kerala is unnecessarily hyping the issue and rejecting its demand to raise the water level of the dam.
