Union Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy, on Sunday at Bangalore was all praise for the Namma Metro, after his maiden ride to Baiyappanahalli and back. He said ` the experience was magnificent and favour¬ably compares to world-class metros.’ He further added `the greatest blessing'' Bangaloreans could have asked for.’
He also said `it is hard to compare the Metro with that of Delhi, as this is only about 6 km, but once it is completed it will be on a par with the Delhi Metro. It might be difficult to measure the performance now, but the experience is as good as that of Delhi.’ He showered praises on the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited team for their progress despite the project being delayed for a long time, after spending an hour and a half with them. Mr. Reddy was more than happy with the existing facilities.
Namma Metro took its infant shapes when the Minister was earlier Minister of Union Urban Development, hence his passion for the project is always there. He said `The Metro is something which every City requires. Apart from saving on fuel, it also helps in reducing pollution.’
