L’Oreal develops fruit pill that stops gray hair

HairScienceScientists at global cosmetics giant L’Oreal claim they have created a pill that stops hair from turning gray. They say the pill, developed after decade hard work, will keep your hair its natural color forever. They say the daily drug will not be expensive and is totally natural because it uses a fruit extract. The pill is expected to be in the market within a span of four years.

While many celebrities such as George Clooney are happy to adopt the ‘silver fox’ look, it could spell the end of hours struggling with plastic gloves and dying the bath strange colours.

Bruno Bernard, head of hair biology at L’Oréal, said: We think it will have a market among men as well as women. We intend people to take it in the same way as a dietary supplement. It won’t be expensive. Ideally, you would take it for your whole life but realistically; we would encourage people to start using it before their hair goes grey because we don’t think it can reverse the process once it has started.

During their research L’Oréal scientists found that hair pigment cells die as levels of a enzyme known as TRP-2 drop after 30 years of age. The pill contains a fruit extract which mimics a chemical called tyrosinase-related protein 2 or TRP-2.
