A recent incident has been supportive to the claim. Last week a techie approached S.R. Nagar police alleging that some Mumbai-based loan recovery agents were harassing him to give details of his close relative based on the latter's Facebook account.

As per the complainant, Y. Ravi Shankar alleged that the agents have been threatening to send objectionable e-mails to their Facebook friends, if they do not give out the contact details of their cousin. Mr. Ravi's wife's name was mentioned in the family tree by her cousin Supriya, who reportedly had some dispute over clearing a loan due to which agents started tracking her.

The details on the Social networking site had given them clue of their mobile numbers. They initially called his wife and when she ignored them started calling Ravi, and sometimes a hundred calls per day asking the details of Supriya, disturbing him from doing anything potential.

The police officials said since it is a non-cognizable offence, they have sent the complaint to the court to seek its directives to investigate further.
