Yeddy ends stalemate, quits at last

YeddyResignEnding the 3-day stalemate and drawing curtains over his 3-year old leadership of the state, the 68-year old Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Sunday quit his post giving relief to the BJP top brass. The new chief minister will be chosen by the BJP legislature party on Wednesday.

Mr Yedyurappa went to the Raj Bhavan from his residence in a procession accompanied by 60 BJP MLAs, Ministers and hundreds of supporters around 4.30 PM and handed over the resignation letter to the Governor HR Bharadwaj.

Governor accepted the resignation without any delay and asked him to continue as CM till alternative arrangements are made.

Later, Yeddyurappa became emotional while talking to media persons and said he was being punished for no fault of his. “This is punishment to me for trying to protect the natural mineral wealth of the state,” he said wiping his tears. “Some people in the BJP wanted me out of the chair.”

The new legislature party meeting will be held at 11 am in Bangalore on Wednesday to elect Yeddyurappa’s successor.
