Stage is being set for what could be called the biggest reshuffle of the Union Cabinet by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh over the weekend.
This has become clear as party president Sonia Gandhi began meeting the Union ministers one by one this morning amid speculation that some of the ministers may be asked to take up party work.
National web media reported that Home Minister P Chidambaram may be shifted to Defence while External Affairs Minister SM Krishna is also likely to lose his portfolio to some other incumbent.
Ministers BK Handique, MS Gill, Kanti Lal Bhuria and Murli Deora may be dropped from the Cabinet while the young Jyotiraditya Scindia is likely to be promoted. Raj Babbar and some others may be inducted into the cabinet from UP.
