Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, fondly called as ‘Laughing Buddha’ by his admirers, was cremated today at his native village Shebdung with full state honours. Khandu was killed in a helicopter crash 10 days ago in Tawang hill ranges in Arunachal Pradesh and his body was found after six days of aerial search by army and air force helicopters.
Over 7000 people attended the funeral procession which was taken out from his residence after Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, his cabinet colleagues, Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong, AICC leaders Dhaniram Shandil and Sanjoy Bapna, legislators and other senior officials paid their tributes to the leader.
Abbot of Tawang Monastery Guru Rinpoche read out the achievements of Khandu in Monpa dialect.
