SC issues notice to Anna’s NGO on misuse of funds

AnnaFundsThe Supreme Court on Monday sought response from anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare to a PIL seeking a CBI probe into alleged misuse and diversion of funds received from the government to his NGO Hind Swaraj Trust for rural development as had been pointed out by the Justice Sawant Committee report in 2005.

Petitioner, a lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma, who faced a barrage of questions from the court on September 12, filed an additional affidavit detailing the basis of the allegations and a bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana P Desai issued notices to Hazare, the Centre, Maharashtra government and CBI.

"It is a clear case of fraud, criminal breach of trust upon the state treasury played by respondent number four (Hazare), coupled with his associates/groups, politician friends for which despite having the Sawant Commission report of 2005, which disclosed the true admitted facts, state/central governments took no action till date," the petition said. Petitioner further states that in 2001 CAPART had released Rs 5Cr to him in the name of rural health. True total amount what has been exploited from the consolidated fund of India will be discovered only if a proper probe in conducted," the petition said.

The petitioner also said that in its July 18, 2010 report, Capart had released a list of NGOs blacklisted by it for fund misuse, but complained that the central government had not initiated any action or criminal investigation into the role of these bodies.
