Indians in Swiss Bank lists: Assange

vicky-leakIn what could be seen as a fresh trouble for the Indian black money holders who had stashed away their money in foreign banks, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange revealed today that there are Indian names in the Swiss bank data list that he will make public soon.

In an interview to Times Now Channel today, he said there are Indian names in the Swiss Bank lists that they are going to publish.  “Names of some Indian bigwigs are there,” he said in reply to a question.

When asked by Times Now whether the names will be revealed at all at any point of time, Assange asked the channel not to lose hope. He also said that he came to know that most of the black money stashed away into the Swiss Banks came from Indians only.

Like Germany which was aggressive in unearthing the black money, India also should have adopted much more aggressive approach to bring the black money into the country, he suggested.

Alleging that the Indian Government’s response to the WikiLeaks cables is worst of its kind in the world, Assange said the Government was trying to mislead the people on the black money issue by saying that double taxation accords would come in the way of bringing black money into India. “But the double taxation has nothing to with the issue,” he said.

Assange in an earlier interview said that he was given the documents of black money holders by a former banker and said the people who stashed away their money in Swiss Banks included business people, politicians, people who have made their living in the arts and multinational conglomerates from both sides of the Atlantic.
