Say alvida to hatred... October 05, 2012 19:33

"Man involves in pleasure seeking and forgets death," said Leo Tolstoy. This is, in fact, very true. People assume that life never ends and behave in whatever manner they wish and when death arrives it's sure that everyone has to shake legs. But to ring the bell and come, death is no relative. How and when it comes is one question for which man can never find any answer no matter how big we advance in terms of science and technology. Wonder, why this topic is being discussed under life style all of a sudden? Well, at least according to me, lifestyle is not just about the way you eat and dress but the way you  take the life. And when you realizes that death treats everyone equally irrespective of region, caste, creed and gender, probably you might make 'never target someone,' your principle. Certainly, your life style would then be changed drastically making you not just a wiser man but even a person beloved by scores. When we look at people who are sick and aged, we often assume that they would be the first ones to get a ticket to skies. But, is that really true? Once I happened to attend a press meet during my stint as a  reporter. I was fortunate enough to hear a short real life tale by a distinguished doctor. The story goes this way - this doctor once came across a sister, who visited her in person along with her brother. She travelled for about 12 hours and met her for a counseling session for her brother who was suffering from HIV infection. Moments before doctor wrapped up the counseling session, the client's sister asked as to how long would her brother live for which doctor said she had a short smile as an answer. The next day, she came to know that the bus in which sister and brother traveled met with an accident. While the HIV infected brother managed to escaped with injuries, the sister who enquired about the life span of her brother left the world. This is just an example, which can make a person introspect as to what life is all about. Did we come on to this earth to fight, target or bitch about each other? Certainly not. Life is beautiful gift of god...spread love...there's so much solace in it...as Mother Teresa always said...the hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread and when you fulfill someone's hunger unconditionally, the solace can only be felt but not explained. Memories of a geisha at Milan Fashion Week went! October 04, 2012 13:40

Fashion shows are always a difficult thing, both for the people who judge and decide what's good and also for those who are being judged. Several catwalks, displays of exquisite and expensive clothing, many of which never make it to the high street stores. Italian fashion market is extremely popular for its 'Haute Couture' with deep necks, cleavage and lots of thighs but this time there was great influence of the Japanese kimono style garments, and tunics with the Nippon touch. But this is not only the bright side but also the dull side of the story. China, the major target for the Italian fashion trends would likely distance itself from the latest trend in Italy, which is obviously reminiscent of their arch enemy. Very few of Shanghai and Beijing's glass windows would be shielding the kimono-ish fashion apparel this year. For a brief round up on the show and how they fared; PRADA Metallic looking socks are not particularly feminish, but give them to the eccentric genius Miuccia Prada, and you have the most trendy looking socks never more apt for women. Embellish them with the flat sandals that remind you of the geisha. The dress it self seemed to be a tunic form slightly altered from the kimonos. The Japanese culture of large flowers, furs, shades and bags stands out in the dresses and the fashion accessories. Fashion is going to make a U-Turn after this for sure. A trendy touch without losing the traditional Japanese feel, 4/5. ETRO Japanesey tunic-like garments; gypsy-girl touch, urban-chic culotte suits; ancient Greek one-shouldered gowns; poncho-Mexicanish handkerchief tops; and Indian evening-wear drapes… hope I have not forgotten a lot. Dresses of every shape and size, this was tougher than my high school geometry for the number of shapes was too high. Etro however had not forgotten his trademarks, the prints.  Via Piranesi cool poppy stage stood out more than the garments from Veronica Etro which oftentimes felt like they were overworked. You wouldn't mind looking away a few times. 2/5. MOSCHINO Mochismo takes you back to the sixties and never loses the beautiful, classic dress and trouser style. Boxy shapes, beehives, metallic minidresses, a lot of black and white generally appeal to only a very small group of people but the way Mochismo blends them with the slick stripes and plastic flowers, very few would be left unpleased unless plain elegant styles are a complete no-no for you. Street style blended elegantly with the Italian styles: 3/5 ERMANNO SCERVINO Seems like there is a special penchant towards the lower end of the spectrum with the number of yellows and oranges greatly dominating the contrasting plain whites. Fringed shirts, laser cut dresses, suede skirts, flashing thighs, and lots of side- boob shows.  Perfect club outfits to drop the bass. It was not overdone though, retaining the “bo” of the "boho-chic" that Scervino tried to achieve. You wonder why the dresses don't fall off though they loosely cling on to you. Capri Sun effect doesn't really speak out loud to the crowd. 2/5. MISSONI Wonder if you are watching anime from Japan live? Missoni almost gets you there. Highly enjoyable to the stylists and accessories team. Futuristic looks with space visors, prominent and extremely bright lipstick and rough crystal ruffs and bracelets were notable. The shoes with the minimalistic and delicate appearance completed the looks. Optical illusion like checkered tops and cut-vests glimmering as the models walked the ramp could hypnotize or rather confuse the crowds. Something about these dresses keeps your eyes on them, 3/5. FERRAGAMO Old faces, teenage physiques and the nostalgia from the 90s. Bags that are a style statement, boots that cover your legs to the thighs whilst undoing the legs exposed by the mini skirts. These clothes with the leather like appearance bring a disappointment to the brand as they try to bank on the youthful looks to grab onto the audience. 2/5. BOTTEGA VENETA In very few shows you want the models to walk painfully slow, like the ultra slow motion during the dramatic scenes in a movie. This is one of them. Bringing back the 70's, the saxophone was a great addition to the show. No categories could be made out, and the defiance had a charm to it but not a hint of arrogance. The butterflies, pansies and tulips were classic ladylike motifs. The and the shapes were Celibate dresses, yet with the tantalizing factors like unbuttoned tops and snakeskin accessories. Tomas Maier won the show at Milan with his masterful detail-rich clothes without compromising on the style and theme. A minor masterpiece. 5/5 JIL SANDER Sophisticated minimalism, so minimalistic that many accessories are given a miss. Sander introduced the simplicity to the brand Uniqlo. Twin tone boots rising beyond the ankle compliment the dresses.  Pinafore dresses worn on tulip skirts and loose jackets with wide, raglan sleeves were interesting, despite being painfully simple. This simplicity is far from being austere though, the trademark of Sander probably. If you wouldn't mind shelling money for simplicity. 3/5 MAXMARA The most bohemian fashion collection was MaxMara collection. As a rule of the thumb, when you flaunt the waistline to make it more curvy, the clothing is generally taut at the curves. Christopher Bailey and others how ever bent the rules and made it loose at the waist and the dress tapered beneath the waist. Above the waist too the clothing appears slouchy making the person look taller. That said, the dresses were a treat to watch and wear, a rare combination. Nearly everything was epauletted; loose camel blazers rolled up to T-shirt length, a skirt-long, action-pleated olive safari shirt, and satin, slouchy-backed, knee-length jumpsuits. The back line went as low as the end of the spine in most dresses. Not the kind of office-wear you are looking for but the perfect style statement, with the MaxMara looks apparent on the clothes. The safari style has been adopted to suit urban needs. 3/5. MARNI Plains and prints were used equally, lower number of accessories and the designer note with the elegance of Zadie Smith was all the people had with Marni's show at the fashion week. Slightly inflated jackets, skirts and dresses, crisp, folding detailing, broad sleeves and deep V necklines brought the Japanese in the clothes out. The shoes were just knockouts. The dresses did little to accentuate the curves. 3/5 (AW- Anil)

Picking the right furniture October 04, 2012 11:24

There are a lot of options, albeit expensive, for one to choose from in the market today. If revamping home is in your agenda and you're thinking about furniture then these are the things that you need to give a thought to: 1. Allot a specific budget first and then go shopping to see what exactly you need. 2. Select the material like hardwood or wood. 3. If cost effective is what your motto is, plan your buying accordingly. 4. Do not plan arbitrarily. Go for that piece of furniture which is utility based rather than that which is just for ornamentation purpose. 5. List out how much storage space you are going to need to keep your stuff. And how much dining space you will need in the house. Is a coffee table space really required in the house? 6. Think about balancing new furniture with the existing stuff in the house in terms of the colour of the polish. You can get your older ones polished in accordance with the colour of the new ones. 7. Whether you need a bed or a box bed, that needs to be planned well. 8. Same thought needs to be given to the wall unit. First of all, what else do you need to store and how large or small is the space where you are going to keep? 9. If it proves too expensive an affair to buy all these at one go, you can avail the EMI options at various outlets which offer such schemes. 10. Enjoy the process of buying.

Making the world's largest Fritos Chili pie October 03, 2012 11:41

How's this for a Frito fix?   The State Fair of Texas and a crew from Frito-Lay on Monday set a new Guinness record by building the world’s biggest Frito pie. The new record of chips, chili, and cheese weighed in at 1,325 pounds and was made with 635 10.5 oz. bags of Fritos chips, 660 15 oz. cans of Hormel Chili without Beans and 580 8-oz. bags of shredded cheddar cheese, according to a press release. About 5,000 single-serve samples were given out to the thousands that gathered at the fair to sample the record-winning pie.  Also on hand were Guinness World Records officials who verified the pie's new status. The pie was made to help celebrate Frito Lay’s 80th anniversary. "The Guinness World Records title adds a new milestone to our proud history, and we are thrilled to be celebrating alongside Fritos corn chips fans today at the State Fair of Texas," said Tony Matta, the company's vice president of marketing. According to Frito-Lay, Inc., the Fritos brand was born in 1932 when Elmer Doolin purchased a corn chips recipe from a local businessman and began making the first Fritos chips right from his mother's kitchen with a converted potato ricer. Doolin's mother, Daisy Dean Doolin, created recipes to help market Fritos corn chips by using them as an ingredient in a wide range of dishes, including her now-famous Fritos Chili Pie. See how it was done:

Afraid of a break up??? Stop it now... September 24, 2012 17:59

All relationships lose their initial spark as the relationship grows and people start looking for a relationship rescue as this starts affecting the enthusiasm of the relationship. This is already when one should think of how to stop a break up as the relationship starts being taken for granted. This stage may see more arguments than good time together. Some just seem not to say much to each other or just fall into a daily routine. But you don’t have to leave it this way. Most people try to rekindle the romance that was there at the beginning like intimate dinners, but it is difficult to address the inner, emotional reasons of the strained relationship. Discussing it may also not help very much and may lead to arguments and make the situation worst. Fortunately, there are techniques that are available for you to use instead of ever getting into a position of dealing with breaking up and getting over heartbreak. 1. Appreciation While your partner could do nothing wrong at the romantic stage of the relationship, once you settle it the focus moves to the things that irritate or annoy you. Unfortunately, focusing on all the negative aspects of your partner can often bring about a feeling of resentment, which can lead to arguments and eventually the destruction of the relationship. It's important to try and find things in your partner that you appreciate. You might appreciate their kindness or their sense of humor or their intelligence or whatever attribute attracted you to them in the first place. There may be negatives but there will also be positives if you look for them. 2. Awareness Live each day of your relationship as though it was the last day you have with your partner. Accidents happen when we least expect them. While this doesn't mean it's going to happen to you, consider how you’d feel if something did happen and today really was the final day you had together. What would you regret most? What would you wish you'd said or done or changed if you never had the opportunity to do them again? Your answers to those questions should be the very same things you need to be doing with your partner each and every day. When you live each day as though it was your last, the romance will return almost immediately. 3. Communication Your partner can't read your mind. Sitting in silence letting a problem brew until you're at bursting point won't make your partner see problems any more clearly and it can compound the negative emotions within you. Communicate with your partner about your expectations, your needs, your goals and ambitions, your disappointment and anger. Communication is about letting the other person know what you’re feeling in a clear, non-blaming manner so that you can both be sure you’re on the same page. It is all about how to stop your breakup by finding ways to be sure you understand and appreciate the little things you do for each other instead of focusing on the negatives. Show your partner your appreciation and support and build up a great relationship.
