IPL: Chennai tames Deccan, climbs up points table

The 46th match of the Indian Premier league fifth season played at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday between the Chennai Super Kings and the Deccan Chargers. This match had helped the home team climb the points table and reach the fourth position with 11 points after playing eleven games. Evenly posed Chennai won five and lost 5, while one match did not produce any result. Chennai won the match on Friday against Deccan, in a batsmen dominated match. After winning the toss, Chennai selected to bat. On the whole it was a batsmen match and some good display of batting prowess from both the teams was applauded by the fans around.

Chennai opened the innings with much confidence. Far de Plessis played an anchor role and scored 42 runs, while the Chennai Skipper M S Dhoni made 34 runs. But the crucial knock of Suresh Raina made the difference for the team, he scored 32 runs and Chennai wound up after scoring 160/6 in the stipulated twenty overs. On the bowling fronts for the Deccan, Pratap Singh had an average spell and grabbed two wickets.

Chasing a target of 161 runs the Deccan Chargers lost their first wicket in the form of Parthiv Patel in their second over when the score was just 9 runs.  But later the Cameron White and Shikar Dhawan kindled hopes with their magnificent willow display. White made a solid knock of 77 runs while Dhawan scored 36 runs. However the rest succumbed to pressure and only Christian scored 27runs. In the end Deccan wound up at 150/5, ten short of leveling the match. For the Chennai Super Kings, Raina, Morkel and Haus claimed a wicket each.
