World Health Organization [WHO] has revealed that about seven million died in the year 2012 due to air pollution and this emerged as the single largest environmental health risk globally. 1 in 8 global deaths were linked with air pollution and six per cent of these deaths were due to lung cancer caused by both outdoor and indoor air pollution.

South-East Asia and Western Pacific Regions are severely hit by air pollution said WHO. Cooking on coal, wood, bio mass stoves, car exhauts, emissions from industry and agriculture are the main reasons for the air pollution cited WHO.

Lower income and middle income group are more effected because of air pollution and most of deaths are registered as lung cancer and heart strokes.
