Revanth Reddy announces to dispatch Rythu Bandhu Funds:- Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to transfer Rs 5,000 per acre of Rythu Bandhu assistance for the rabi season directly into the bank accounts of land-owning farmers, starting from Monday. This decision was made during a high-level meeting at the Secretariat, chaired by Revanth Reddy. Attendees included Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Special Chief Secretary (Finance) K. Ramakrishna Rao, and Agriculture Secretary M. Raghunandan Rao.
Due to the immediate need for assistance by farmers, the Congress government has decided to proceed with Rythu Bandhu for this rabi season. There was insufficient time to establish guidelines for implementing Rythu Bharosa, as promised by the Congress during the election campaign. Rythu Bharosa would have covered a larger number of beneficiaries, including tenant farmers and agricultural laborers. Under Rythu Bharosa, farmers were promised Rs 7,500 per acre per season, compared to the Rs 5,000 provided by Rythu Bandhu. In total, over 70 lakh farmers will receive approximately Rs 7,500 crore in phases, starting from Monday. The announcement of this payment was initially made in November, but was delayed at the last minute due to the intervention of the Election Commission of India.

The Congress party has made a promise to provide financial relief to farmers through the Rythu Bharosa initiative, which is the most costly of their Six Guarantees. This initiative pledges to provide Rs 15,000 per acre per year to farmers and tenant farmers, as well as Rs 12,000 per acre to agriculture laborers, divided equally between the rabi and kharif seasons. Additionally, the Congress has also committed to waiving crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh for farmers. While the BRS scheme only covers 70 lakh farmers registered in the Dharani portal, the Congress aims to include a larger number of tenant farmers and agriculture laborers. However, it is anticipated that the implementation of guidelines to identify these individuals will require more time, meaning they may only start receiving assistance from the Rythu Bharosa initiative in the 2024 kharif season.
