Supreme Court Refuses Ban On Firecrackers:- The Supreme Court today ruled out the ban on firecrackers in the country with Diwali heading soon. However the apex court imposed restrictions on the public bursting of firecrackers. A Bench of Justices A.K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan ruled against the petition about the manufacture and usage of firecrackers. The court asked the people fire the crackers between 8 PM and 10 PM during Diwali festival. The local Station House Officer would be personally liable for any violation.
The Supreme Court suggested the production of green crackers that would create less pollution instead of using firecrackers. The court even asked that the crackers should be used in the pre-designated areas finalized by the state governments. The judgement came in favour for the Union ministry's five page affidavit. The Centre has been working with Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, National Environment Engineering Research Institute, Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to curb pollution.
