TS Govt To Make Aadhaar Mandatory For Vehicle Registration:- For the registration of motor vehicles and transfer of ownership, the Telangana State government has unveiled its plans to make Aadhaar compulsory.

Besides this, to protect previous owners and auto-rickshaw financers, the government will also upload the details of vehicle sales on the website. Addressing a review meeting on transfer of vehicle ownership, Transport Minister Mr. Patnam Mahender Reddy said that the state was having about 95 lakh vehicles. Majority of these vehicles were sold twice or thrice. However, buyers are not getting the transfer of ownerships. “Such incidents are leading to troubles for previous owners and present owners during accidents and while claiming insurance,” he said.

The minister said that amendments to the Act were needed, to avoid inconveniences. “We are hoping to solve it with the help of Aadhaar, which will be made mandatory for registration and transfer of vehicles,” he said.

The officials were also directed by Mr. Reddy to hold special camps to create awareness on transfer of ownership. “Officials should maintain a database on par with e-challan. Details, including purchase of vehicle, phone numbers of seller and the names of the seller and purchaser, the should be uploaded on the website, www.transport.telangana.gov.in,” he said.

Telangana has became a role model for other states in reducing fatal accidents, said Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy.

“Accident rates in Hyderabad have been cut down by 33 per cent and the number of death due to road accidents is reduced by 73 compared with previous years,” he said.

Principal secretary of the transport department Mr Sunil Sharma, Traffic DCP A.V. Ranganath, joint transport commissioners J. Pandurang Naik (Hyderabad city), T. Raghunath (administration) and Ranga Reddy district transport officer M. Praveen Rao participated in the meeting.
