Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Approves Rs 1500 Crore For Project?:- A huge amount of Rs 1,500 crore has been approved for the Musi River Project by the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation yesterday in the first board meeting.

The Municipal Administration Secretary Navin Mittal, speaking on the occasion, said the project would be taken up in three phases and under the first phase, the river reach from Osmansagar to Golnaka covering a length of 33km will be taken up.

Apart from that, under the project the Riverfront development and river conservation are also proposed. Under riverfront development, river cleaning, bank stabilization, river walkway, Musi Nature Grove, bridges, rowing course and water pools are proposed.

And under river conservation, at each Nala outlet Sewer Mains, Sluice gate, 30 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) at Hydershahkote, 6 MLD STP at Miralam and 70 MLD STP at Attapur have been proposed, added Mr. Mittal. Moreover, around 72 check dams have been proposed, adding that under the project parking facilities were provided at 15 places.

In this year’s budget, Rs 500 crore was allocated for the Musi riverfront development. The government has also agreed to extend the guarantee of the government to an amount of Rs 1,500 crore for raising loans. The negotiations with the banks have been started and few banks have agreed in principle to extend credit, added Mr. Mittal. If necessary, the Green Climate Fund and funds from the National River Conservation Directorate would also be sourced.

The Musi river project intents to take up riverfront development and conservation to develop riverfront as a dynamic and vibrant city level recreational and socio-cultural centre and also as a tourist destination. The project also aims to create a new city level green spaces along the river to enhance the riverfront to act as green lungs of the city. It will check that the water is maintained throughout the year and to reduce pollution in river water, will direct the dry weather flows of nalas to reduce pollution in river water.

Those who were present at the official meeting were Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Chairman Prem Singh Rathod, Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sulthania, HMDA Commissioner Chiranjeevulu, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, TSTDC Managing Director Christina Zongthu and other officials.
