Water Supply System In City Improved A lot : KTR:- Over the last few years, the water supply system in the city had improved a lot, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao.
After the launch of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB)’s newly acquired 70 mini jetting machines, the Minister said that in the past, dharnas at HMWSSB head office with empty pots used to be staged by the opposition parties. Such scenes are history now, said KTR.
On laying a pipeline network in the peripheral areas of 13 municipalities, that were clubbed with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), around Rs 2,000 crore was being spent. The HMWSSB jurisdiction has been extended and 180 villages within the Outer Ring Road too are being served by the Water Board, said KTR.
Previously, it used to take years for laying pipelines covering 1,000 km nut now, in a span of just three months, around 1,200 km of pipeline network was laid. The Minister added that already the road restoration works are being taken up at brisk pace.
On monsoon preparedness, instructions were given to GHMC and HMWSSB to work in coordination to address grievances and take up different works, the Minister said.
Mr. Rao said, “During the next three months, the officials will not be permitted to take leave. He further directed the departments to accord top priority to workers safety. All the safety equipment such as boots, gloves, helmets etc. Should be provided. The government is prepared to spend more on workers’ safety and saving their valuable lives, he said.
The Minister recalled the Bholakpur incident, in which, 14 persons had lost lives due to water contamination in the past. During the Nizam’s era, a majority of the pipelines in the core areas of the city were laid. To replace the old pipeline network, Rs 11,000 crore was required, said Mr. KTR.
