The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the goods and services tax (GST). According to the bill dining out, watching movies and electronic goods are going to get costlier. Phone bills might increase taxes.
Constitution Amendment Bill was passed, paving way for GST, which is the biggest tax reform.
Prime Minister Naredndra Modi tweeted that "our MPs must be congratulated for their path breaking decision to give India indirect tax system for the 21st century".
He said “this reform will promote Make in India, help exports and boost employment while providing enhanced revenue. The government will continue to work with all the parties and states to introduce the new system.”
The Congress which usually create ruckus over bills, also supported the Bill.
