Since last Friday, the Congress was unable to come to a steadfast conclusion over the Telangana state issue. Once Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy strategically presented the various requirements of a separate state, the decision went from the hands of the Core Committee to the Working Committee. And yet, there is no clarity.

Kiran Kumar Reddy has become a hero among the leaders of Seemandhra for putting up well prepared facts on the reality of a bifurcation. He proposed a Rs1,11,750 crore budget for the Telangana's various sectors. These included higher education colleges and 500-bed hospitals in each district. Benefiting nearly 80 lakh under privileged families is a costly affair, he noted.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Telangana has begun seeing him as a villain for effectively making Congress postpone the decision once again. After the meeting with the Congress Core Committee last Friday, the high command changed gears and referred the matter to the working committee. Even Sonia Gandhi was open to the travails of the Telangana cause, but a conclusion was hard to come by.

Responding to these developmets, TRS chief KCR finally broke his mounavratham and showed his displeasure to Congress. He said that this is not new to the centre as it had resorted to blindly misleading Telangana supporters even in the past. He has been telling supporters to intensify protests further.

Amid the potboiler, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati pledged her support for a separate Telangana, saying the party had supported T-state right from the start. Among the option presented by the high command, there is a possibility of Telangana and Seemandhra, Andhra and Rayala Telangana, Telanagana and Seemandhra with Hyderabad as union territory or Telanagana with Hyderabad as capital and new capital for Seemandhra.

As per the CM's facts, Telangana stands more to lose in the event of a bifurcation, compared to Seemandhra. This has made the Congress into wondering if a split is really worth it.
