Gitam develops super computer

geethamsThe Gitam Centre for Advanced Technology Solutions has developed a Super Computer, also called “High Performance Computer (HPC) Cluster”, capable of delivering 1.5 Teraflops (1.5 Trillion Floating Point Operations per Second) performance.

This super computer is built with 16 dual-processors, Sun rack servers comprising of 128 cores, and half terabyte of RAM. The Technology used in this super computer is massively parallel processing (MPP). The University Chief Technology Officer says, “With this super computer, Gitam is now capable of taking up very-high computer intensive research and consulting works in the areas such as bioinformatics, molecular modelling, nanotechnology, simulation of large systems, meteorology and weather forecasting, Finite Element Analysis of high-rise buildings and complex mechanisms, quantum and nuclear physics, computational chemistry, data mining and others.

While launching the technology, the GITAM University president, Dr M.V.V.S. Murthi appreciated the CATS team for their achievement. Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Subramanyam, and CATS Director and Chief Technology Officer Mr V.Rao Bathina and others participated in this function.
