Kaun Banega Crorepati 6, Don't miss it September 08, 2012 13:11

Big B is back to give big money on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC 6) in its sixth edition. Sony televisions brings in this show which is a sibling to a hit British TV show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? that created television history when it was launched in July 2000. the sixth edition was unraveled Friday and will air every weekend at 8.30 pm exclusively on Sony Entertainment Television. And this season begins as usual with the graceful welcome from the superstar of superstars Amitabh Bachchan who is the host of the show. The TRP rating soar for this show ever since its launch. Riding high on the success Sony tried to deviate and sideline the host by replacing him in the earlier runs, but the changed backfired. And the media company had to go back on heals to bring in the star of stars. And then the rating started climbing up once again. A cheerful  contestant Kanwar Singh from Amritsar took charge of the hot seat as the first contestant of this season. But cheerful young contestant from Punjab, Surtej Singh, won more than six lakh rupees, that is to be telecast today as the second episode. The highlights of the opening day of this season is a recitation by the star and host who is filled with grace. He recites a poem, emphasising the power of knowledge which dispels the darkness called ignorance. And in addition shall remain with the person for ever, knowledge is an asset that neither can be stolen but only would aid better than anything else in life. The first episode before going on board to the hot seat, Amitji joins in a heartwarming performance along with the top four Indian Idol contestants Vipul, Amit, Devendra and Poorvi. The five perform to a Salim- Sulaiman rendition. There other important moment scheduled is the superstar croons along with the  famous Shillong Chamber Choir, that was singing a medley put together for KBC 2012, arranged by Neil Nongkynrih, the choir's founder and conductor. A special UV act choreographed on a range of songs by ace choreographer Remo D'Souza, also entertained the viewers as an opening bonanza.   Apart from all this we have the usual fun with Amitji at the driving seat like lock karen, computerji, computer mahasaya, 50:50, phone a fried, audience poll and lifeline. All these are traditional dictum of the actor who is the corner stone for the whole show. This year too the maximum prize money is Rs 5 Cr. And this time Amitji explains how KBC had influenced the lives of the winners and how they were able to fulfill their social desires. A video recording of such success stories also forms the core part of the show. On the whole KBC has an exceptionally good trp across India, inspite of a language jargon. This is where the real mind game begins and the only that really tests your brains. Pulsating moments that makes the viewer vibe with the hot seat participant is the bets part of this popular show. In schools the function is awesome. On this day the student union takes over the administration and conducts the school the entire day which generally concludes with a sumptuous party by the students to the teachers. In principle the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan is celebrated as Teachers day. A honour to the visionary who made significant contribution in shaping Indian Education system. Dr Radhakhrishnan was the first Vice President for the Republic of India and was the second President. He was a teacher and is remembered as pride of the profession. Go fit with Bicyclone on Necklace road September 03, 2012 13:45

It has become the talk of the town since March, with T-town stars and Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy being present at the inauguration of the Bicyclone, bicycle tracks venture at the Necklace road. Though it was widely popular only a few have actually tried it; partly due to the location and the rest due to the timings. Recently, I had an opportunity to get my foot on the pristine pedals of a Firefox which I could rent for just Rs 30/- for a period of almost three hours. With a friend, we rode all along the length of the Necklace road, with ease and the trip made us feel fresher and fitter. Other people around who were also on bicycles rented from the bike shed here could not say otherwise. A bike track was established with the nod from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and help from the Hyderabad Biking Club (HBC) under the name bicyclone. The bike shelter has over a hundred bicycles for kids and adults. Nostalgia struck my mind when I heard that renting bicycles is still possible in this concrete and motorized jungle. I paid a visit not expecting much from the shed but I couldn't have been more wrong. A well organized shed, Firefox and high end Hercules cycles lined up side by side dismissed all my negative thoughts. To the right were a set of rules, timings and a disclaimer printed in white over green. Yes, green to signify the green-ness of the activity. A small cubicle where you have to make payments and give your contact details and an ID proof for security was right beside the board in green. Any standard ID card would be accepted, the person in the cabin said. For a nominal price of Rs 30 per bike, we took two bikes and took a stroll along the lake. Merely walking alongside the lake on a pleasant evening is magnificent and you can only imagine how we felt biking along the roads, on such an evening. The bikes were in perfect condition, geared whether you an effortless drive or a adrenaline filled race. It had been quite a while since I rode a bike and the experience after a long time was overwhelming. People on the road were unaware of the bike rental right beside the place they were walking. This points out at the ignorance of the people despite governments efforts to popularize and promote the novel idea in the state. Here are further details of the bike rental. A little further after crossing Ohri's and Jal Vihar on the Necklace Road, and then the temporary carnival set up, to the left is the bike rental from GHMC. The location just cannot be missed. The timings for the biking center are from 5am to 7am in the mornings and 5pm to 8pm in the evenings. Rent:Morning: Kids: Rs 10/-Adult: Rs 20/- Add 10 rupees in case you are going for a ride in the evening. You can choose whether to take a stroll in the adjacent Sanjeevaih Park or on the roads; depending on how safe you can feel. The traffic in the evenings could prevent you from the complete freedom of biking, so we recommend that you go to the park if it is the evening. There are different types of bicycles available for your choice. A 3x7 geared Hercules or Firefox is a great choice for all kinds of rides. You can take your partner on a Tandem Bicycle, while taking a casual stroll whilst still spending quality time and bonding with the loved ones. Fitness is a bonus. They also offer a lifetime membership for just Rs. 100/- which is soon to become compulsory to rent the bikes. It is also our part to support such healthy ideas and help ourselves in return. The membership negates the need for a ID to be submitted at the cabin apart from a few other benefits. In short the Bicyclone is a complete package of fun and fitness which has the potential to be a popular weekend hangout. There are plans to establish similar bicycle tracks in city are around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park, defence areas in Cantonment among other places. The availability of the cycles would also be increased as the demand from the visitors increases. This is probably the beginning of a tradition already popular in most developed nations where you can rent bicycles at bus and trains stations then cycle for shorted distances and deposit the cycle back at another station. Think of how green the city can be with fewer automobiles on the road and extend your support to "Bicyclone". (AW- Anil)

Ganesh Chaturthi on September 19 September 03, 2012 12:44

Ganesh Chaturthi is fast approaching that means loads of sweets, savories and togetherness. In Tamil Nadu it is celebrated as Vinayagar (Pullayar) Chathurti, while in Hyderabad the festival is called Vinayaka Chavithi. However in Bangalore the festival is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. Actually as per the Hindu myth Lord Ganesha the son of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati is the person who ought to be prayed first for all pujas. It is  a known belief that Lord Ganesha when first evoked shall help the performer to complete the ordeal more efficiently and more effectively. Ganesh puja in general is performed with due respects across the nation and fervor mounts equally in all metros. However the metro densely packed are feared to rake in communal riots during the immersion of the Lord's gigantic statues. But ever since decades the immersion procession has been going on smoothly with no untoward incidents. And most recently even people from other communities wished us on the occasion. A personal experience while I was residing in Chennai keeps me awestruck at the facts that defy logic. Well on one year due to some controversies the statues were not allowed to be immersed in the ocean, which is the regular procedure. Sensing some communal issues the idols where not taken out for immersion and remained neglected in the special pandals or the false roofing set up exclusively during the ten day celebrations. Normally the idols are taken out in a procession after a maximum of ten day-celebrations to be immersed in the river or ocean in the metros. But this was different that year. On the twenty first day or later after the Ganesh Chaturthi was completed, there was a huge cyclone, which quenched the water reservoirs that were parched without water for some years. Not only this most of the idols disintegrated into mud due to the heavy downpour and the false pandal giving away. Religious veterans expressed that the lord gave water and also took away his statues that were denied immersions. Immediately after the rains had stopped the balance idols were taken out in procession and immersed. While I leave it for the readers to leave this issue behind, as it was my belief that I have quoted here with no logic behind. One most important thing that one needs to remember while celebrating this renowned festival is the water pollution that leaves a permanent scare on the human race. The traditional mud statues were pretty good in the age old days. But later the synthetic stautes that had hazardous chemical and metals in it were contaminating the water sources while immersion. Hence bring home a Green Ganesha and enjoy this festival while safe guarding the environment. Wishesh is also eagerly planning for the celebrations on a large scale as usual. Keep abreast with the latest happenings about the festival celebrations taking shape in south India, by visiting this space on a regular basis. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

DJ held, drugs seized August 31, 2012 10:32

With cosmopolitan culture fast catching up across India, the concept of DJ replaced the traditional ways of beating stress. However, there were reports that many a time drugs (narcotic substances) were supplied at many DJ parties. A similar incident came to light when 'Anti Narcotic Cell' (ANC) busted a 23-year-old professional disc jockey (DJ) in Goa recently. According to the police, the accused R Mohana Sundaram was a student of audio and sound engineering besides a professional disc jockey. The police said that during the primary interrogation, the accused revealed he hailed from an affluent family and performed various discos and musical nights in Goa. The police seized narcotic substances from this person, which was worth eight lakh rupees. The DJ was produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate (JFMC) and the court remanded him to the police custody for further investigation. It may be noted that the police got information from reliable sources that this DJ was allegedly carrying narcotics. Therefore,  they raided the place and found 451 LSD papers, 14.1 grams of ketamine besides 3.3 grams of charas. Also, some cash and a mobile phone was recovered from him. The DJ was booked under Sections 20 (b) (ii) (A)and 22 (c) of NDPS ACT, 1985. In the pretext of cosmopolitan culture, one is harming not only the health but also the culture by indulging in such acts. Lets put an end to this and say no to drugs. (AW Phani)

Teachers day on September 05 August 30, 2012 15:00

Gurur Brahmmo Gurur Vishnum Gurur Devo...Maheswaraha Gurur shakshath para brahmmam thas misri guruvae namaha....(excuse me if I have not written it correctly in English..) Teacher’s Day 2012 is celebrating as usual on the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan. A honour to the visionary who made significant contribution in shaping Indian Education system. Dr Radhakhrishnan was the first Vice President for the Republic of India and was the second President. He was a teacher and is remembered as pride of the profession. And this day is in honour of  Dr Radhakhrishnan who excelled as a teacher. However as per the Hindu Myth 'Guru Pournima' is considered as the day to pay reverence to the 'Guru' or 'Teacher' The full moon day in the month of Ashadha (July-August) is known as Guru Pournami. This is traditionally the time when seekers offer the Guru their gratitude and receive his blessings. This is the concept oriented approach imbibed in the rich legacy of Hindu culture. Well the importance of this day is endless and might as well be celebrated on both the days. As it means remembering our Gurus, but for whom, we would not have scaled these peaks. Yes parents gave us 'jeevan' (life) and Guru gave us gyan (knowledge). I remember an old saying about the teacher who in modern days is called as a mentor. The parent is the first teacher to the child while the teacher is the second parent to the child. True in its larger meaning, the statement is worth its salt, every word written. Flash Back: Remember those nimble fingers of yours that were held to write letters on the slate under the first teacher's guidance. Then later the Maths sir in your fifth class, who bribes you with chocolates and makes you learn the addition and subtraction. When ever the addition was made, you got more chocolates and you smiled. But when subtracting, chocolates were lesser on hand and you frowned. Then the tenth class Biology teacher who gave undue importance to you and spoke in lengths on an embarrassing session of human anatomy and at the end you felt it as an adult class. Then in Eleventh (+1), the physics sir who was puny and always used to run to the washroom. Next was your thermodynamics lecturer in graduation and last not the least your professor who taught you management principles. Well the list is endless. And now let's leave it at that and come down to the present context. Recently I went to my home town with my sixteen-year-old daughter and on her insistence we visited my school, a small place. There we met my old teacher, with shivering-bent body he looked up to recognizes me. When I recalled him my name and about my parents, slowly he realized and smiled in approval. I hope this is a regular experience to one and all. But the fact out here is the teacher remained at the same place but after learning from them We have scaled unknown peaks in profession. That very moment I realized that this was circle of life. But do we have such dedicated teachers today, yes of course. However the teacher might be, he or she must be reverred for their inclination to see the best of you on any given podium. They would sincerely pray and strive for your excellence. That is an ideal teacher and offering your obeisance to such a soul, is one's ardent duty, to upkeep the Guru-Shishya principle. Thanks sir for what I am today, your blessings....  (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

'Happy Onam': Wishesh wishes all our readers August 29, 2012 14:56

The week long anticipation ends to day with the arrival Onam, nation... why global wide our Kerala brethren celebrate Onam today. Infact the ten day celebrations begin from today. And Onam is best to be seen in Kerala than anywhere else, delicacies are available where ever there is a Kerala home but the actual cynosure is there in the visit to the God's own land only. The ten day carnival begins today with Thiru Onam and is filled with feasting, boat races, song, dance and merriment, an what not. The celebration spectacle is marvelous and only can be figured when one visits the God's own land, as rightly termed by the intelligent. The carnival begins with a parades of caparisoned elephants, fireworks and the famous Kathakali dance. Infact the whole state is so electrified these days that it would be an ideal retreat form this concrete jungle, say travelers. Early today a flower carpet is laid in front of every house to welcome King Mahabali who had been permitted by the divine lord, (in his Vamana avataar), to visit his subjects once a year. After the traditional pujas, the lavish feast 'Sadhya' commences. Sumptuous delicacies are served on a plantain leaf with Kerala's favorite aromatic Payasam. Wow! My mouth is watering even with the thought of the delicacy. In the evening many go out to meet friends and relatives after wearing new clothes. The festival is dominant because of the reason that this is the harvest time an even most poor farmers will have surplus around this time. This Onam has become more enjoyable with the release of  Mohan Lal, Run Baby Run. For all our Malayalee readers this film has been directed by Joshy. And you know the gorgeous Amala Paul is paired to our superstar in the film produced by Milan Jaleel for Galaxzy Films. And the most interesting part is, pshhh! Don't leak it out, I just overheard that the film is centered around media. With Mohan  Lal at the helm, there is sure entertainment all the way. The script by Sachi is sure to keep one pinned down with punch notes! But the most important thing during this festival that speaks of the rich heritage of the state, and found nowhere else in the world, are the boat races. 'Vallamkali' of  Karuvatta, Payippad, Aranmula and Kottayam are all venues for  a clash of the oarsmen. And the way they fight for honors is a real feast to the eyes. The Chundans or the snake like boats are driven by a team towards the winning mark. Then the 'Odis', the 'Churulans' and the 'Veppus' variety of boats neatly decked up show up to add glamor to the still river waters. The entire lot, oar in competition cheered by the river bank viewers.  I cannot tell you how delightful or entertaining the experience is....but only a word to God....why only two eyes....(With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

Onam welcomes 'Run Baby Run' August 28, 2012 14:47

Onam fast approaching and the delight is multiplied with a block buster on the heels from the veteran Mohan Lal, Run Baby Run. This Onam has become more enjoyable with the release of this film. Onam the most exuberant festivals is no longer a regional one or pertained demographically only to Kerala. But it has become almost a national one, owing to the fact that the Malayali brethren are found every where and no one is short of them, due to their intelligent and logic advise they offer. Then we have the Ganesh Chathurthi on September 19. Paper Ganesha is going viral and it is good for the environment too. The moment we think of  Ganesh Chathurthi, we think of the big idols of the Lord and this time let us make it a point that we go with Eco Ganesha. With Onam just 24 hours away the Keralites, nationally are on long shopping sprees. Markets across the metros are filled with them and the multiplex shopping zones are abreast with activity. Many have left for their home towns last night. As  the railways have pressed into service many special trains from the metros to Kerala. Many global Keralites have also reached the state to participate in the ten day ritual which was celebrated in reverence of King Mahabali who ruled the state some thousands of years ago. King Mahabali's era was considered as the golden era of the region. He was pushed to the Pathala by none other than the Lord Vishnu. But overwhelmed by the magnanimity of the great King the Lord granted him permission to visit his subjects once a year. And the visit is celebrated as Onam. The people from the God's own country are busy making preparations to welcome home King Mahabali, the benevolent king and grandson of Prahalad. They are inviting kiths and kin for Ona Sadhya, the grand feast they host on the festival day. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

South Indian Expendables...dream always August 27, 2012 12:30

Multi-starers, a phenomenon that was possible in the early onset of careers are dreaded by many leading stars of South India, significantly no such films are on the anvil. Ofcourse such fears are prevalent in Hollywood too. The Expendables 2 released this month with macho man Sylvester Stallone and eleven other action heroes was a wonderful example of a multi-starer. But in a recent interview Stallone whose brain child was the film said that he wanted to give life to the people who shone and off late had a lean patch, similar to the encouragement he received in his career. So that sums up what the film is for, ofcourse undoubtedly reaping rich dividends at the ticket counters. But who will dare such a budget in the south tinsel world. And imagine the various vagaries the crew has to face in the hands of the esteemed stars. The dates, the story and the action scenes. As per the above image, we have six stars, in addition not to leave the Kannadiga from the show, I would like to add the recently acclaimed Sudeep (Kichcha) as the main antagonist, our films need the good and the bad. In a nutshell we need a minimum 13 songs  ( Six intro songs + Six duets + one club song for climax), three inter fights (between two each) and one big climax, imagine the average time the film would need. As we need to build threads for establishing their characters and interweaving them too. OMG it is mind blowing! Its too hoooooot to think of this proposition........I am exhausted and am looking around for Manickam Sir to give me glass of cold drink to coool down. The above article is a figment of imagination that I grabbed from a popular article that caught my eyesight while scanning my favorite news paper in the morning. The image is brought from the original sources, only for reader enrichment. But content is purely original and imaginative analysis. Hope you have had your morning dosage of the medicine that cures all diseases, 'laughter' (chuckles!).  (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
