Onam, fast approaching! August 26, 2012 10:14

As Onam is fast approaching this is our second reminder to our Kerala Friends to come home for celebrations. Onam the most exuberant festivals is no longer a regional one or pertained demographically only to Kerala. But it has become almost a national one, owing to the fact that the Malayali brethren are found every where and no one is short of them, due to their intelligent and logic advise they offer. Well I don not personally try to offend others, as I feel Kerala state with hundred percent literacy could possibly have million of mentors. And they are there all around for us to just open up. Onam is celebrated to remind the rich legacy of the state under the golden era of King Maha Bali. The King had ruled the place, some 1000 years back, as per the myth. And his rule was filled with good governance and abundance. The King was a valiant warrior too and his positive trends reached the three worlds. Envied by his popularity Lord Indra prayed to Lord Vishnu. And as usual Lord Vishnu obliges. He assumes the form of a small Brahmin boy and approaches the King, who was conducting a big Yagna for the better of his subjects. The King was gifting the Brahmins of wealthy gifts. And it was the boy's turn and he requested three feet of place. The King immediately granted him his request. With one feet the Lord who takes the form of an invincible human crosses the sun and with the next stride the universe. To place his third foot he asks the King for place and the King who realizes the Lords disguise bends down and shows his head. And so the generous Kind is thrust to the underworld. But overwhelmed with his generosity the Lord grants him a boon. The Lord grants 'for ever the King will be able to visit his subjects once in a year' and that is the core of Onam celebrations. On the other hand Onam marks the harvest time and the celebrations are spread over ten days with lots of cultural activity and funfare. Wishesh wishes all our Malayali brethren a 'Happy Onam.' Chiru Anna- Happy Birthday August 22, 2012 10:07

C - Challenging, tough minded optimist                                                        H - Hallmark of Discipline                                                        I - Integrity in the assuming tasks                                                        R - Rare vision for social equality                                                        A- Ambitious to give the best                                                        N- Never tiring                                                        J- Jubilation when he is around                                                        E- Entertainment conscious                                                        E- Exemplary vision for people's betterment                                                        V- Victory mapping                                                        I- Intelligent to handle laurels and brickbats alike This is what I presume about the actor turned politician Chiranjeevi, Konidala Siva Sankara Vara Prasad on his birth day today (August 22). Chiru as he is popularly called as is the name that dispels all around exuberance of discipline, dedication and determination. Unlike many celebrities of the day, Chiru was a self-made man and has set standards for the later generations. He is synonymous to the vogue that set your eyes on the stars and reach there while shining bright like the pole star. Chiru has drawn strengths from his failures and climbed on the success ladder undeterred. Hard work, vision and discipline with an aptitude to learn from mistakes has made this actor turned politician a successful personality globally. At this moment I remember a personal encounter with the star some time, or rather years back, when 'Abhilasha' was released. Then Chiru sir was living in Giri road on the first floor in Chennai, and he had lesser leader worship. Chiru sir was driving his White Premier Padmini (Fiat), probably on his way back from shooting with a white chudidhar type dress on, near the Valluvar Kottam signal. Just then myself and my close friend, late Gollapudi Srinivas were talking to our Tamil friends opposite Vidyodaya school. Suddenly his car zoomed past us. Srinivas, immediately told me that Chiru Sir was driving his car and if I can, I should race past him. Immediately with him behind me, I sped on my bullet to catch past a glimpse of the Megastar, the race was just few seconds as his house was just a hands throw from the junction. Finally we caught up with the Megastar who was watching us through his rear view mirror. Just before his house we could get past him and he waved at us. Then we took a u-turn and turned back, by this time Chiru Sir had parked his car in his home and came back to latch the gate. The moment he saw us he smiled and asked us to come in. He took us into his lavish drawing room and called, 'Baby give us some tea!'. Tea was given to us by his wife and that was tasted better than nectar. And he very passionately asked me how are you? Still in awestruck fantasy, I replied, I am fine sir, and slowly tried to ask him back. He smiled. Then he questioned my friend who was the son of a renowned writer and appreciated him of his fathers role in 'Idhi Pelantara'. The dream was prevailing on me till he gave us a warm send off till the gate below. I came back into reality after starting my bike. Then is chided my friend and asked him why the hell he did not introduce me to the great star of our dreams. He instantly replied in surprise, 'idiot, I thought he knew you and that is the reason he first inquired about you.' then I recalled the incident and realized that as my friend remarked that scene looked exactly like that. The reason for me to remember this wonderful moment on his birthday is to tell you friends that in his presence nobody feels, like with a stranger. Such is the greatness of this man who lives as a ray of light in the hearts of millions like us. Great men and greater obedience as my teachers,  used to say. Though later I met him in preview theaters  and shooting spots while accompanying Srinivas, this first encounter with Megastar left an everlasting impression on me. Happy Onam, August 29 August 21, 2012 14:41

Onam reminds me of the delicious Keralite delicacies served by next door Ponnu Chechi, Chechi we miss you from Chennai. Probably if you are reading this you will know how much Muruguesan flats miss you. Well that was a bit nostalgic moments of our childhood, and now let me get back to my theme. My chief asked me why boss so early when Onam is a week away about the festival. Though he was reluctant, I went on with the proposal after getting his half hearted green signal. As far as I know the 100 percent literature state has its populace spread across the globe and they need to come back to join the ten day  carnival and for them I send this message that your homeland is calling you back to rock man. Onam is celebrated to remind the rich leagcy of the state under the golden era of King Maha Bali. The King had ruled the place, some 1000 years back, as per the myth. And his rule was filled with good governance and abundance. The King was a valiant warrior too and his positive trends reached the three worlds. And as usual this envied the Lords of Heaven who inturn prayed to Lord Vishnu over the issue. In order to oblige the Lord disguises as small Brahmin boy and approaches the King, who was conducting a big Yagna for the better of his subjects. On seeing the Lord, the king asks him offers him his salutations. The Lord inturn asks for three feet of land. The King grants him his wish, thinking the Lord to be small boy. With one feet the Lord who takes the form of an invincible man crosses the sun and with the next stride the universe. To place his third foot he asks the King for place and the King who realizes the Lords disguise bends down and shows his head. The Lord inturn places his foot on the King's head. With the thrust the King reaches far below known as the Pathala Loka. Imagine this King was truly great to have his head thrust by none other than the Lord himself. However spell bound by the King's magnanimity the Lord grants him a boon, 'for ever the King will be able to visit his subjects once in a year' and that is the core of Onam celebrations. Another important occasion is that the festival is around the harvest time. This is the time when the new crop comes to the market and with this brings in profits to the farmer. An ideal moment to celebrate. Wishesh wishes all of our readers a Happy Onam, advance wishes of course. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

Power Star fans celebrate Diwali with Gabbar Singh August 19, 2012 10:17

Last Night was hectic in the city with Power Star fans celebrating the 100 days celebrations of Gabbar Singh. Fans make hey at the theaters that screened the film. They celebrated the victory lap of the Power Star after a long hiatus, may be once after Kushi. It is shear coincidence that as Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger is heading towards a hundred crore mark with in 4-5 days of release, his another movie Dabangg remake in Telugu Gabbar Singh sets standards at the box office breaking all records. Industry sources speculate the earnings of the film to be around 160+ Cr in the hundred days journey. Fans very jubilant at the Sandhya Theater at the RTC X roads. However the Producer Bandla Ganesh, remained humble. He said it was an outright Pawan Kalyan film and he is the sole person to be credited. He also all of praise for debut Director Harish Shankar and Music Composer Devi Sri Prasad, who made his dream a reality. He thanked the entire Gabbar Singh crew who contributed for the success. Shruthi turned as a lucky mascot overnight with this block buster. Probably, owing to the plight of the Assamese exodus, the film makers never celebrated the 100 days function or might be planning a mammoth 150 days function shortly, feel fans. Music of the film was awesome and, still trends, on top of the chart, inspite of 100 days at the ticket counter. Pawan as a man in uniform adds new colour to the otherwise scary profession. He goes on to prove that all of security forces are our friends in uniform.  On the whole Gabbar Singh pumps in new wine in a ultra innovate fashioned bottle worth its value in entertainment. 'Kolaveri Di' lip-lock with Viswaroopam beauty! August 18, 2012 12:27

Wondering whats happening! Me too, remember the Kolaveri Di fame, Anirudh who shot to fame with his maiden music score. Yes like his song had gone viral immediately after launch, his lip-lock photo has also gone viral. The bony young man seems to be enjoying a sweet smooch with the Kamal Hassan's Viswaroopam pair Andrea Jeremiah. The smooch between Anirudh (22) and Andrea Jeremiah (27) has gone viral and the two were unavailable for comments. However media travels faster than light and penetrates even where air does not flow in.    Finally they caught up with Andrea who had openly admitted her relationship with the music composer as a past affair. She said that the photos were 18 months old and right now they have parted ways. The actor also ascertained that she had better things to do than getting bogged down by the viral propaganda. Andrea is right now waiting for her magnum opus Viswaroopam release, across south India shortly. Her concentration is pinned on how to shape up her career after the release. Being paired up with the Lokanayakudu (Ulaganayaghan) is a dream come true for any actor and she would like to make maximum utility of the opportunity. Having begun her filmy career as a playback singer in Tamil as early as 2005, Jeremiah transformed into a versatile actor with Tamil film Pachaikili Muthucharam. She will be singing for the Manchu productions Gundello Godari in Telugu. On the other hand Anirudh is busy composing the 'Kolaveri Di' for Tata Nano with his friend actor turned singer Dhanush. Parents calling: Come back home! August 17, 2012 16:14

The plight of the Assamese settled in the metros of the south Bangalore and Hyderabad remains the same and probably those in the other metros also must be feeling the same. Most of them come here, to learn or earn, are returning home on parents calling. With shattered dreams and heavy hearts, they are leaving their pursuit for greener pastures and reaching back home on the distress call of reasons unknown. The miscreants who are spreading these falsified rumors must be identified to avoid this mass exodus, feel public at the metros. Inspite of a comfort message from the MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) on Thursday asking governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to reach out to people from Northeast living in these states to allay apprehensions of a threat following the exodus of hundreds of people. An SMS and social networking campaign has been behind this uneven exodus. The MHA has asked the monitoring agencies to identify the sources. Incidentally the central government temporarily banned SMSes and MMSes, for fifteen days, owing to the crisis. As of now no live incidents of attack or violence of any kind is reported in South. Then why this panic, ask public. The Bangalore Police has said it is investigating the source of the SMS that triggered panic among the Northeast population in the city causing them to flee in hordes. Even the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday appealed to Assamese settled in various parts of the country, not to panic. Scared by rumors of retaliatory attacks following the Assam violence, Assamese are moving homewards in mass numbers. Patrolling has been tightened by the Bangalore police in the North East residential areas. As per estimates nearly 11,000 have fled from their temporary homes from Bangalore. Karnataka Home Minister R Ashok made a vain bid and addressed the departing North East people on the station's PA system to reassure them of their safety. Nearly 45 percent of 1,700 residents from North East, have evacuated from Hyderabad. The state government has tightened security around the habitats of the North Eastern residents. India is one country, and unity in diversity are our strengths. This mass exodus is painful for a patriotic Indian. This incident on the close heels of our country celebrating its  66th Independence is a disgrace, feel veterans. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

Ek Tha Tiger is all about seeing the love-lost-pair Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif as lovers onscreen. The professional actors leave behind their off-screen differences and gel well onscreen. Their chemistry is the soul of the film and entices one-and-all. Most of the film shows the lead pair running and running. So better wear your sports shoes while seeing the film, to get a feel, well that's of the records. RAW Agent Tiger (Salman Khan), our own desi 007, sets of to UK to knock into the secrets of anti-missile technology expert of Indian origin, Professor Anwar Jamal Kidwai (Roshan Seth). Enthralled by Zoya's (Katrina) beauty (an help to the Professor), Sallu bhai falls fida, inspite of his comrade Gopi (Ranvir Shorey) warning him. Girish Karnad is a highlight for the film. Ek Tha Tiger's is a little lengthy, but with some excellent cinematography. The onscreen pair sets the screens on fire. Music by Sohail Sen is soothing and bewitching like the lead pair. Salman is indomitable once again. He is back in the formula that has won him accolades, since Wanted, Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. Ek Tha Tiger is just an extension with a different treatment. Hence fans can trust for ultimate entertainment from Sallu bhai. Aditya Chopra has produced a safe bet, while Kabir Khan (director) and notable writer Neelesh Misra, narration weakens a little towards the end. However the twists in the Aditya Chopra's story, blends an espionage thriller with a romantic interweaving which entertains both the class and the mass equally. The film is a must for all, but children and teens will enjoy the most. Espionage or spy life has always kept us intriguing and interesting, ofcourse off the reality. Ek Tha Tiger gives yet another dimension for the Spies. And with Sallu bhai at the helms, Ek Tha Tiger is no short of entertainment. In a nutshell, Ek Tha Tiger is a romantic, spy thriller, that bonds Katrina with her former beau. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

Sare Jehan se Achha...to make it, wipe her tears! August 14, 2012 10:56

'Saare Jahan se Achha Hindustan Hamara,Hum Bul Bullein Hain is ke, Ye Gulsitaan Hamara,Saare Jahan se Accha Hindustan Hamara...' All of us know that the country got its Independence from the Whites in 1947 on August 15, that is history and tomorrow we go on to celebrate the 66th independence day. As an Indian, all of us feel proud and great on this day. That's a part of the euphoria on the Independence day, as usual. However many of us forget to ponder over the issues that are savoring, on Mother India, like cancer. Meticulously planned Constitution, well fought non violence war, abled leaders with a vision, abundance man power, resources surplus and water everywhere, yet our standards are still, to reach the most developed status globally. Is it a boon or a bane. With rich heritage behind us, we are heading nowhere, towards prosperity. The scams, the political uncertainties and human greed to grab more than required have become the parasites eating the system. And inturn paralyzed it to such an extent that we are moving towards, 'beyond repair levels'. Had we done the trouble shooting or medication at an early stage then this day would not have emerged. Our short term memory has been well exploited by our earnest elected members. This is one country where heroes turn villains for a brief moment and later as time passes they emerge back as heroes. Well if need to cite examples about the issue then this whole space would be just an atom of Mt Everest. Amassing wealth is needed for all of us, but that within limits is sure to give endless happiness. Educating our children for a brighter society is the order of the twenty first century. It is not important that 'we give them all that they want' but it is essential that 'we give all that they need.' So why are we greedy to deprive the others of their rightful share of the resources and saving it for the generations to come, down our lineage. This is absurd, yet the prevailing funda. On one side we have the common man suffering on all sides, the rich avoiding taxes,  politicians trying to save their seats and earning more to take care of their generations that are yet to come. Growing GDP and downwards surging growth rates, escalating prices and depreciating rupee value, the rich get richer and the poor get subsidies... where is the scope of a breather, for the middle class man. Though we give a damn to any of these things, on the rest of the 364 days, atleast think once for today. Because it is we, who could change the phase of this nation... irrespective of age, colour, creed or work. As an idea could change the lives of our fellow countrymen. Ask not 'what our country has done for us,'. As if we start listing, then the country has given us in abundance. One simple issue is our freedom of speech, if not you would not have been reading this, while I happily sip my morning  coffy cuppa. Just keep asking 'what we can do for the country,' may be you could make the difference. Imagine, amidst all this hectic parleys do we have time to wipe the innocent tear of the baby who is crying for roti, roti and roti. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

Indian six-pack steer nation's dreams August 13, 2012 12:41

The 17-day carnival of the summer games at the London Olympics 2012 comes to an end, the closing ceremony was held on Sunday. It was a sad end for global athletes who shared the athletic village at London. Most lived in harmony the last fortnight like brethren and this departure was painful. 10,500 sports persons from 200 or more countries took part in 300+ events and had a eventful time at the London Olympics. But as curtains came down it was a sad end to a tumultuous 17-day journey for the sports fraternity. The journey had been filled with joy and remorse equally, anticipations, dilemma, achievements and pit falls all-in-one making the perfect script to a wonderful blockbuster  Bollywood film. Well the Indians could not ask for more at the end of the day. India grabbed honours at the London Olympics 2012 with a six medal haul, of which 4 were bronze and 2 silver. Though the pitfalls were Indian Hockey team's miserable failure and the gold haul that eluded us. Now lets get back to our six-pack of honours who have contributed significantly to our pride, by winning the medals. India had doubled its medals tally at the London Olympics 2012. in Beijing 2008 we had only three with a gold by Abhinav Bindra and two bronzes by Susil Kumar and Vijender Kumar. In London Olympics 2012 Indian athletes made it big by getting 2 silver and 4 bronze. Lets take a deeper look at the stalwarts who brought honour to Mother India. Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar was defeated by his Japanese opponent Tatsuhiri Yonemitsu in the final bout at ExCel Arena on Sunday. He lost 1-3 owing to health issues. However he was awarded silver in the 66Kg freestyle Wrestling event. With this personally the flag bearer at the opening ceremony for India achieves a rare distinction for gaining back to back medals in two consecutive Olympics. In shooting India's ace shooter Vijay Kumar surpasses in the men's 25 metre rapid pistol firing event. He claimed his silver at Royal Artillery Barracks, on August 06. The Himachal Pradesh Army subedar hit the target thirty times of his 40 rounds of firing in the eight rounded series of five shots each. Vijay Kumar a relative underdog in the iNdian contingent gained limelight with his splendid and sharp shooting prowess. Another medal in the shooting was claimed by Gagan Narang in the riffle's event. Gagan  was always in the shadow of Abhinav Bindra, India's only gold medalist in the event at Beijing. The Hyderabad lad this time surpassed and claimed his bronze at the 10m Air Rifle event. Inspite of an unpredicted exit of the later, Gagan sprang to the moment to grab the lime light with his meticulous planning at the  Royal Artillery Barracks on July 30. He scored 701.1 to claim his bronze. With this the Hyderabadi has achived his dream run for an Olympian medal which eluded him in Beijing. Another wrestler who claimed limelight was Yogeswar Dutt, who grabbed the bronze inspite of  severe bruise on his eyes, at the ExCel Arena in the 60kg freestyle wrestling event. Yogeswar on August 12 lost his bout with Russia's Besik Kudukhov, and hence was contended with a bronze. The villagers of Bhainswal in Sonipat celebrated the grappler  victory the whole night.   For the first time ever in the history of Olympics, women boxing was introduced in the London Olympics 2012. India's ace women boxer MC Mary Kom, a mother of twins claimed her bronze at the ExCel Arena. However the Manipuri was pitching her hopes on a higher medal, nevertheless bronze is equally great at the London Olympics 2012. Mary Kom was defeated by her British opponent Nicola Adams. The Briton restricted the Indians dream run by 11-6 in the semis on August 09. Ace badminton champ Saina Nehwal was gifted bronze in the women's singles badminton tournament on August 05, at the Wembley Arena. Saina was gifted because after losing her match on Friday she has ended up for a bronze combat with  Xin Wang of China. And though Saina was not at her best, the Chinese retired hurt giving way for Saina to grab the honours. That was pretty lucky of Saina who promised a Olympic medal to her fans, back home. The Hyderabadi was honored by the nation on her return. Wishesh admires and salutes the six gems of India who brought fame to the nation fulfilling aspirations of a billion fans, back home. Wishesh also admires the profound efforts of the Indian contingent for the London Olympics 2012. all of you are equally important behind the success of the six. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)

Celestial Spectacle for three days, starting Sunday night August 10, 2012 19:49

What could be more dramatic than Venus, Saturn, Mars lining up with the crescent moon? Imagine the same line up spiced up by trails from the The Perseid meteor. Yes, now that is what we are talking about. Perseids Shower is the debris from the Swift Tuttle Comet which is expected to put up a spectacular show around the nights of 12 Aug. Meteors as many as 100 per hour can be seen during these days when the shower is expected to be at its peak. With the urban glare the trails of meteors can be lost easily so it is always better to rush to a rustic setting to witness the maximum number of meteors zoom past the moon. The display is extra lucrative as you can always set your eyes on Saturn, Mars, Venus or even Jupiter while waiting for the shower which typically can be observed at 10- 11 in the night. Here is a little and rough schedule of the events: 11 August: 33% crescent moon in the proximity of Jupiter, just above the bright Venus. To add to the show a appearance of the  Red-giant star Aldebaran would make the sky more vibrant. 12 August: 24% crescent, Jupiter rises slightly making way for the shooting stars. All the planets and moon line up.13 August: Lowered meteor shower count, planets continue to tantalize you. NASA is seeking the help of the amateur sky watchers to count the Meteoroids so if you are watching and counting them do send your counts to  NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office to study and model the Perseid debris stream. Android users and Iphone can use the “Meteor Counter”  available to download on Android Marketplace and Apple's App Store. (AW- Anil)
