Smriti Irani to present 'proof' in Rohith, JNU cases!

After the oppositions busted on the HRD minister Smriti Irani for her alleged derogatory comments on goddess Durga and HCU student Rohith Vemula, the minister now, standing by her comments, got prepared to come forward with the right proofs.

As demanded by the oppositions, the minister got prepared to authenticate the documents and is willing to offer them for the scrutiny of opposition members in order to establish that her statements in Parliament were factually accurate.

Ministerial sources said that in Mahishasur case, opposing the derogatory references to Goddess Durga, the students registered an FIR in 2014 and that was followed by a letter from Delhi police, advising JNU authorities to ensure that events, which could provoke sectarian sentiments were not held in the university.

Reportedly, Irani even has reports that clearly specify particular references to Hindu deities and the alleged bid to run down religious beliefs.

Coming to Rohith Vemula issue, Irani is ready to counter allegations that the student did not receive scholarship emoluments as records show payments were made as late as November 2015 and claims that the university board which decided to expel him did not have a dalit member was not correct.

Basing on the Telangana police report, the minister raised several doubts over the proceedings of Rohith’s death. Denying the allegations of the minister that no medical assistance was made available to Rohith, a doctor said that she was with the student.

Along with the police report, the minister is expected to consider other aspects like the gap between the death and its report, as well as the difficulties faced by the police in accessing the body needed to be probed.

The documents, Irani has relied on, have been authenticated by JNU authorities and have dealt with issues like the February 9th JNU meeting controversy in detail. The original application to hold the meeting stated that the subject was “cultural re-interpretation” that the university authorities later saw as a ruse to hold a more controversial assembly.

The HRD Minister has argued that, after February 9th meeting, another meeting was conducted on the next day, where posters were put up that reiterated references to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, being the victim of “judicial killing”.

Meanwhile, the forensic reports stated that, two out of nine videos sent to Hyderabad for tests, are manipulated with the duplicate voices. More details are awaiting on the issue.
