Union Cabinet Reshuffle: Smriti Irani Replaced:- In a shocking move, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight went with the Union Cabinet reshuffle and removed Smriti Irani from the role of Information and Broadcasting minister. This portfolio has been assigned to Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. The Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has been asked to take charge of the Finance Ministry for time being. Smriti Irani will continue as the Textiles Minister.

Smriti Irani's tenure as Information and Broadcasting minister has been occupied with controversies because of which she has been replaced. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley underwent kidney transplant recently and is recovering currently. Piyush Goyal will handle Finance portfolio till Jaitley recovers and gets back to work. SS Ahluwalia, the Minister of State for Drinking Water & Sanitation has been assigned the portfolio of Ministry of State in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.
