A US grand jury on Friday re-indicted Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade on the US Visa fraud charges and also issued an arrest warrant. “A grand jury has returned a true bill today on a two-count criminal indictment of Devyani Khobragade,” said the office of US attorney Preet Bharara in an announcement.
Shockingly the fresh charges were indicted tow days after a New York dismissed Devyani case. The new charges accused Devyani of visa fraud and making false statements about the visa application of her maid Sangeeta Richard.
Devyani was arrested on December 12 on visa fraud charges and for making false statements regarding the visa application She was strip-searched and held with a cavity check. She was asked to leave the US and on January 9th, Devyani returned India and is currently working with Ministry of External Affairs.
