Police lobbed teargas shells at students of Osmania University in Hyderabad this morning when the latter tried to break heavy police cordon in order to take out a march to the state secretariat violating the prohibitory orders.
Similar situation prevailed at the Nizam College grounds where students planned to go on a rally and pelted stones on police. However, the police chased them away with batons.
Tension gripped both academic campuses following the incidents in the wake of intensified T agitation which saw the participation of government employees, RTC staff, thousands of teachers and others in the mass general strike that began on September 13.
The students wanted to take out rallies in support of the mass general strike and show their solidarity to the striking employees for the sake of Telangana state.
Employees of Singareni Collieries, more than one lakh seventy thousand teachers, thousands of RTC employees and state government staff of the Telangana region have been on strike for the last seven days as part of the mass general strike seeking separate state.
Police arrested 30 students for stone pelting and injuring six policemen besides damaging cars parked at the Nizam college.
