Pakistan's first: Full term for National Assembly

Pakistan seemed to have broken a curse on Saturday midnight after it managed to successfully complete a full term for the first time in the National Assembly, despite the leadership being divided on a few issues.

The National Assembly of Pakistan is synonymous with the lower house of a parliament. Until Saturday, it never had a complete full term, often being interrupted and shut down before the 5 year term due to either military or political unrest. Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had created a milestone achieving this feat though there were several differences in the leadership concerning the choice of caretaker premier for the polls supervision.

With his farewell speech which was broadcast over the Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television Network on Saturday night, he expressed his gratitude to all the democratic forces and other institutions which helped him work towards the strengthening of democracy.

Ashraf held the office for less than a year after his predecessor was ousted after being blamed for contempt of court. He said that at a time where there was a lot of negative propaganda and baseless and fallacious allegations against the government, the completion of a full term in his reign was "an extraordinary and historic event".
