A special court had awarded life imprisonment to all the 31 convicts who were involved in the Naroda Patiya case of the post-Godhra riots. The BJP MLA Maya Kodnani had received 28 years of imprisonment in Jail while Babu Bajrangi is to be imprisoned until death according to the verdict announced by a court in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Kodnani will serve 10 years in jail after she was convicted under Sec 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means). Following this sentence would be the life imprisonment for 18 years awarded under Sec 302 and other sections. This is an unusual case as the sentences of the court generally run simultaneously. The special judge  Jyotsana Yagnik on Friday had pronounced this rare sentence that the terms would run one after the other.

"Court has passed judgement on 31 accused. Accused No. 18 Babu Bajrangi has been given imprisonment till he dies. Maya Kodnani has been given 18 years jail in one section and 10 years in another section. The court has said that till this 10 years imprisonment is not completed, life sentence will not be counted".

One of the convict was absconding, 22 other would serve for 14 years at least and 7 others would serve for 21 years at least.

The Narendra Modi government in Gujarat has also been asked to give Rs 5 lakh to a woman who was a victim of gang rape.
32 people were convicted by a special court in the Naroda Patiya riots case on Wednesday, in which, 97 people belonging to the minority community were killed.
