A jawan died after a bullet from the practice earlier had hit him in the chest accidentally at the Khanpur firing range, the Army reported on Thursday.
The deceased was a signalman, Ravi Shankar. He had been killed after an unfired practice bullet had struck him in his chest at a firing exercise in the Nagotra belt located on the outskirts of Jammu city, according to the report from a senior army official.
In the practice Ravi was to shoot 15 practice bullets but he could shoot only 14 as the last one remained stuck in the gun.
The struck bullet in the practice had unleashed itself after the practice and hit Ravi in the chest.
This accidental misfiring had killed the Army Jawan who belonged to 16 Corps Operating Signal Unit. His corpse had been arranged to be sent to his native place in Bihar. His family would arrive to Nagotra belt to receive the body for further ceremonies.
