India's largest passenger car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki is expected to restart the Manesar plant on 21 of August as it had sacked over 500 workers after the gruesome killing of a manager in the plant by setting him on fire. This deadly riot in the plant has caused a loss that exceeds millions of dollars in output due to the temporary abeyance in production.
This factory in Manesar has the capacity to churn out more than 550,000 vehicles per year and is the sole manufacturer of the most preferred car in the hatch back section Swift and its extended model Swift Dzire. Since July 18th the factory had shut down due to the clashes between workers and management. Starting this Tuesday, the company plans on building over 150 cars every day as opposed to the 165 per day production prior to the riot which killed the manager and left over a 100 people injured.
With the festival season starting its spree in the nation, Maruti Suzuki had planned on capitalizing on the season when people shell out money in large sums to own a new four wheeler.
Sharekhan brokerage analyst had speculated that soon the company would improve the production to 300 cars per day in two weeks and the number can be expected to go as high as 500 a month.
Maruti has faced several setbacks earlier too but it has never affected the company's production for a long time. The company had fended of several obstacles and ramped up their production to cover the deficit very soon.
At present 300 workers would begin working at the plant and the company aims to increase the production gradually but steadily according to the chairman, R C Bhargava but he had failed to give a specific date when asked the date for the company to regain complete operational status.
