Indian Army rescues a British woman

After being isolated in the Padam valley in intemperate weather conditions on Wednesday a Leh based helicopter unit of the Indian Air Force had rescued a British Woman.

Lorna Wilson who was stranded in the high ranges in Zanskar ranges of Ladakh at the Tangze Yogma, was rescued by the pilots of a Army helicopter.

Wilson who was a member of a doctor field trip had succumbed to acute mountain sickness while on the trip to higher altitude ranges in the Zanskar range. If not for the help, officials said that she could have easily slipped into High Altitude Pulmonay Oedema (HAPO).

The British team had requested for emergency air rescue through their embassy. The Siachen Pioneers, Leh based IAF Unit had received the message for the rescue operation at 9 pm on Tuesday to ecavuate the woman.

Wg Cdr P S Babu, Flt Lt Prateek Gupta and Flt Lt Ashish Kumar Nim and led by Wg Cdr Ajay Singh Rajput, were the members in the helicopter who had  rescued  the woman in helicopter.

In the last 10 days the IAF had also rescued two Czech nationals and an individual from France on August 5th and August 12th respectively, making this their third already in the month.
