The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, had arrested 5 state police officials after they falsely connected an Israeli national in a drugs case and the Goa Police said that this was an issue that had caused them to be ashamed.
Manohar Parrikar, the Chief Minister of Goa, had released the newsletter of the Police which had this statement on Wednesday, as a part of the Independence Day celebrations.
He had commended the police for being transparent and accepting their mistakes. According to the newsletter, “The Goa Police is ashamed of a PSI (police sub-inspector) and four constables who were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for false implication of David Driham, an Israeli national in Anjuna, in a drug case."
Driham alias Dudu was arrested by the anti-narcotics police from Goa in 2012 carrying a cocktail of ecstacy, cocaine, heroine, LSD and charas which was valued at Rs. 3.81 lakh. The police had also notified him as a big time dealer.
Dudu's sister conducted a sting operation and found out that the police who nabbed the Israeli national himself was selling the drugs to foreigners. Sunil Gudler, the corrupt official, was later referred to the CBI who arrested him and four other people involved in the case.
The news letter also promised that such police officers would no longer be on force as it is taking strict measures to ensure that the standards and the integrity of the officers is maintained.
