$ 100,000 USD reward for Indian Fugitive

In a rare instance, the Australian police had announced a reward of a whopping $100,000 USD in cash to the person who can reveal information related to the whereabouts of Puneet. 19 year old Puneet had killed a person while he was driving along City Road in Southbank 4 years ago in October, 2008.

He was a learner-driver who was involved in a hit and run case in which he had hit 2 students Dean Hofstee and Clancy Clocker who happened to be walking along the road at that unfortunate time.

Hosfee had died on the spot immediately after the accident while Cloker had been critically injured, They both were from Queensland and were visiting Melbourne. If any useful information that would lead to Puneet's arrest would be rewarded with $105,864.87 USD.

Robert Hill the assistant commissioner said that it was the first instance where a reward had been announced for a traffic offence.

The police opined that his whereabouts might be known to several people in India and Australia and hopefully with this advertisement they would come out into light and help then arrest him. It has been speculated that he is still in India and the police are working with their counterparts in the country on the issue.

Australian government wouldn't seek his extradition till he is arrested or produced before a court of law in India.

Puneed had pleaded guilty after he was charged with DUI in the killing of the two innocent students. He had an alcohol reading of 0.165. He had run away to India on the passport of a friend and was due for the hearing of a court in 2009.

The friend was jailed for two-and-a-half years for perverting the course of justice
