Torrential rainfall in Uttarakhand

3 jawans belonging to the fire service department were killed along with another three people in the heavy rains which had thrashed Uttarakhand on Saturday. The unabated rains have caused several landslides and flash floods in the area demolishing houses and left thousands of pilgrims of the Chardham Yatra stranded.

The government had to pass a high alert after the Garwhal region was engulfed in the rain, while the met department had also forecasted  heavy rains.

3 children in different areas of Uttarakhand were killed due to the rains.

Several Badrinath pilgrims were stranded at various places at Patalganga, Lambagar and Birahi due to landslides.

The Uttarkashi district had to face the bane of flash floods.

Chardham yatra to Gangotri and Yamunotri still remain suspended entering the second day of suspension. River Bhagirathi is is carrying water well above the danger limit which necessitated evacuation of people to safer areas.

The flash flood wiped off 30 homes from the lands.

Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna requested rescue and relief operation in the disaster-hit areas to be launched immediately. He also asked the officers to reopen the roads that would allow the pilgrims stranded in the yatras to go home after asking for a daily update report on the situation in the Garwhal region.

He said that food and other essential items to the stranded pilgrims by the state government.

The  heavy landslides and torrential rains last year had suspended the Chardham Yatra to Gangotri and Badrinath shrines for almost a week.
