Over 22 organizations, by their representatives, have threatened the government to go on a nude protest in the Sivasagar town of Assam on Wednesday as it has failed to punish the culprits, army personnel for their misbehavior and molestation of a girl in Dolpa on 13th July.

Organizations like All Tai Ahom Students Union (Atasu), Asom Jatiyatabai Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and Brihattar Asomua Yuba Mancha (BAYM) would stage their protests right outside the deputy commissioner's office with the demand of immediate punishment being awarded to the responsible army personnel.

An activist said that they staged a dharna on 20th of July seeking exemplary punishment to the guilty army personnel apart from demanding a compensation of Rs. 10 Lakh, or a government job and ousting the officer in charge of the Nitaipukhuri police station in no more than three days. But the government turned a deaf ea r to their protests.

Yadav Gogoi, the general secretary of BAYM has opined that the people of Sivasagar feel the government has not paid any heed to the incidents in Sivasagar while justice was meted out to the Guwahati molestation case sincerely. They also wanted the same justice to be offered to the Dolpa molestation case.

A 13 member team of the Naujan-based 287 Army field regiment was patrolling the flood-affected region of Dolpa while the incident occurred. Anil Kumar Upadhyaya the accused army personnel was remanded back by the army court of inquiry from the chief judicial magistrate after being presented to the latter by the police of Sivasagar.
